  • 1 box (15.25 oz) Yellow cake mix Follow package instructions for baking.
  • Eggs (Per cake mix box) As listed on the box instructions.
  • Oil (Per cake mix box) Substitute melted butter for richer flavor.
  • Water (Per cake mix box) Use milk for a creamier texture.
  • 1 package (3.4 oz) Vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 cup Chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: Prepare the Cake Layers
    Preheat your oven as directed on the cake mix box to ensure it reaches the proper temperature.
    Prepare two 8- or 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them thoroughly. You can also line the bottoms with parchment paper for easier removal.
    Prepare the cake batter as directed. For added richness, substitute milk for water and melted butter for oil.
    Divide the batter evenly between the pans. Bake until the top turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out without any batter.
    Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then carefully transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Step 2: Make the Custard Filling
    In a medium mixing bowl, combine the vanilla pudding mix and cold milk.
    Whisk until thickened, about 2 minutes.
    Cover the custard with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to set.
  • Step 3: Assemble the Cake
    Set one cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand, positioning it carefully.
    Spread the chilled custard filling evenly across the top, leaving a small border around the edges.
    Gently place the second cake layer on top and press it down lightly to secure it in place.
  • Step 4: Prepare the Chocolate Ganache Glaze
    Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan until it’s warm but not boiling.
    Pour the cream into a heatproof bowl over the chocolate chips. Let sit for 2-3 minutes.
    Stir until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
    Allow the ganache to cool slightly before pouring it over the top of the assembled cake, letting it drip down the sides.
  • Step 5: Chill and Serve
    Refrigerate the assembled cake for 1-2 hours to set the layers and enhance the flavors.
